Nobel Biocare NobelDirect Dental Implant
Nobel Biocare is the manufacturer of NobelDirect and NobelPerfect, which are improved types of titanium dental implants that have been the subject of safety concerns. In a recent study undertaken three years after patients were given NobelDirect dental implants, the risk of the implant loosening had increased even more. A follow-up by researchers at the Sahlgrenska Academy in Sweden shows that eight percent of the implants had been lost.
NobelDirect was launched in 2004 by Swedish company Nobel Biocare AB. The implants were considered a great innovation, as they could be screwed directly into the jawbone without having to first lift up the mucous membrane. However recent research by several Swedish research scientists have shown the dental implants may be linked with significant bone loss.
